Felix Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 'Scottish'

Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1 in G minor is one of the most popular concertos in the solo violin repertoire. It will be performed with Elfida Su Turan, the exciting Turkish violinist, as the soloist. Described as a violinist of exceptional artistry, Elfida Su Turan is a winner of the International Haslemere Strings Competition, known for her technical precision and emotional depth. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of So-Ock Kim. Her recent prizes include the RAM Concerto Competition, the Ilona Fehér Competition in Budapest, and 1st prize at the HISC. She has received the ‘Future’s Women Stars’ Prize from the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and was awarded 2025-2026 LSO Conservatoire Scholarship.

The other two works in the Concert are the Overture in C by Fanny Mendelssohn - one of the few works attributed to her because of the limited opportunities available to female composers in the nineteenth century. Her younger brother Felix completes the programme with his Symphony No 3 'Scottish' which was inspired by the Romantic poetry of Ossian and Sir Walter Scott during a walking tour of Scotland.
