Come & Sing
We also run an annual Come and Sing event where members, family, friends and others can join us in learning and performing a work in a single afternoon.
We sing in St Christopher's Church, Weyhill, a beautiful local church with a super acoustic. Rehearsal sessions romp through sections of the chosen work and are interspersed by tea breaks renowned for offering a good spread, and culminate in an informal performance in the early evening with accompaniment from the HMS orchestra.
Past works have included: Jenkins' The Armed Man, Vivaldi's Gloria, Rutter's Requiem, Haydn's Creation and Nelson Mass, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Coronation Mass..
"This event was a great success with 75 singers,( most of them from other choirs plus those who had seen our publicity), and a chamber orchestra comprising HMS members. Both were admirably led by our new chorus mistress, Catherine Olver, who received many accolades for her pleasant and positive manner in guiding everyone through a lot of music in a short time. Clive Osgood, our regular accompanist provided sterling support on the keyboard.
Tea and cakes were also praised and enjoyed by all.
At the end of the afternoon, a short informal concert of the practised choruses was performed to a small audience of family and friends.
We hope that this event will continue to thrive and attract new members to HMS.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed."
