We also run an annual Come and Sing event where members, family, friends and others can join us in learning and performing a work in a single afternoon.
We sing in St Christopher's Church, Weyhill, a beautiful local church with a super acoustic. Rehearsal sessions romp through sections of the chosen work and are interspersed by tea breaks renowned for offering a good spread, and culminate in an informal performance in the early evening with accompaniment from the HMS orchestra.
Past works have included Handel's Messiah, Jenkins' The Armed Man, Vivaldi's Gloria, Rutter's Requiem and Haydn's Creation.. For 2023 we sang the appropriately chosen Mozart's Coronation Mass and the work for 2024 was Haydn’s Nelson Mass..
The next Come and Sing event will be held on Saturday 1st February 2025 at St Christopher’s Church, The Green, Haslemere GU27 1DD. All singers, no experience necessary, are invited to join members of HMS chorus and orchestra to rehearse under the direction of HMS’s Chorus Master, Tom Lydon. The chosen work will be advised nearer the time.
Please arrive at 2pm for registration and to collect your score. The afternoon will finish with an informal performance, from 6pm, of the pieces we have been working on and will be accompanied by the orchestra. This is open to the public, free of charge..
Entry includes music hire, tea/coffee and cake in the intervals.
