Subject to Government regulations, Haslemere Musical Society is returning to live Covid-safe rehearsals from May 2021.HMS Symphony Orchestra welcomes applications for the position of principal oboe. This includes opportunities to play cor anglais.
The orchestra rehearses on most Monday evenings 7.30-10pm and gives four main concerts per year, normally at the Haslemere Hall or St Christopher's Church, Haslemere.
The symphony orchestra forms part of the Haslemere Musical Society which has its own Chorus and three of the concerts incorporate both orchestral and choral works.
The orchestra has a membership of around 30, augmented for larger-scale concerts. Members pay a subscription (currently £134 per year) which contributes to rehearsal expenses. We would expect the successful candidate to make a regular commitment to the orchestra; we seek to find opportunities for suitably qualified principal players to perform with us as soloists.
Interested oboists will be asked to play at a short informal audition with James Ross, the orchestra's Director of Music (two short contrasting works or orchestral excerpts - c 4-5 minutes maximum total, and some standard repertoire sight reading), and to play in at least one tutti rehearsal in late May/June at Haslemere Hall.
Please contact Marion Bagshaw at firstname.lastname@example.org, summarising previous performing and orchestral experience. We seek to finalise the appointment before September 2021.
