Saturday 11 th May 2024 at 7.30 pm in the Haslemere Hall
The Haslemere Musical Society is excited to announce that its leader, Tom Horn will be performing ‘The
Lark Ascending’ in a concert which has as its theme ‘nature’, especially suited to a Spring concert. As
well as the Vaughan Williams there will be Respighi’s ‘The Birds’ and the chorus will join the orchestra
for choruses from Haydn’s ’The Creation’.
In ‘The Lark Ascending’ Vaughan Williams creates images of the lark with music in an incredible way.
While in ’The Birds’ Respighi, a twentieth century composer, turned to baroque music for inspiration.
‘The Creation’, an oratorio written by Joseph Haydn in 1797 and 1798, depicts the creation of the world
as told in the Book of Genesis and is considered by many to be one of his masterpieces.
The programme for the May concert is:
RESPIGHI ‘The Birds’
STRAVINSKY Ronde des Princesses from "The Firebird Suite" 1919
VAUGHAN WILLIAMS ‘The Lark Ascending’ (soloist Tom Horn)
HAYDN Scenes from ‘The Creation’
The conductor is James Ross.
